Out Of The Desert

Huge thanks to all that came to the Brewery for our concert last Saturday the 30th of January. We had a full house and you all were very responsive to our show. You are all making us feel very welcome and Todd who hires us is very pleased with the attendance. Who knows…..If you all keep this up we may be able to find a niche for Bluegrass out here in the desert.

We certainly want to play at other venues around the greater Las Vegas area and spread the spirit so we are asking those that like what you heard to help us find those places. Come on. Put Out of the Desert to work and make that energy that was felt happen around the Valley. Get us a good paying gig and take a 15% COMMISSION. In this day of band successes through nontraditional sources like internet word of mouth, we’re asking for your help. If you want it…make it happen. Just remember that we are looking for more of a concert type venue instead of noisy, smokey bars. We want places that are comfortable for the audience and us and where the whole family could come. Parks and Recreation Department Concerts, Festivals and outdoor events, Church functions, City Celebrations, Casino Shows. Things like that.

Our next gig at the Brewery is on March 5th which is a Friday this time. Come on out and join the fun and help us grow by bringing new faces. Maybe try to persuade people that haven’t heard Bluegrass to come out and give it a try. For information on how to get there, here is the link for the Brewery.

We’ve been quiet for a while so we could all enjoy the Holidays with our families and friends. Hope you all had enjoyed yours. The other reason for our web and performance absense is that we are fitting in two new members and we are ready to showcase this new line up on Saturday, January 30th at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company. We hope to see all our friends there and that every body brings a new friend or 10 to see us launch this great line up.

Our additions are:

Jon Meek who plays dobro and mandolin with us, but he plays everything there is really well. We hate him. (KIDDING) He will also be singing harmonies.

On bass will be Bruce Thomsen playing for now an acoustic-electric bass guitar. He may go for the stand up bass later on. (when we make so much extra money that he can afford it.) He is also going to be supporting the harmonies.

Folks…..this is very exciting and this is a really good group of guys. We really want to thank you all for your support last year and hope that this year will really have Out of the Desert being seen in lots of new and differnt venues. Keep and ear out for us.

Out of the Desert has two gigs in November.

The first one is at the Saxbys Coffee House in the Seven Hills Area on Friday the 20th. Your host and owner will be Terry who himself loves to hear Bluegrass Music and is kind enough to have us play at his Coffee House. The coffee and snacks are great. We will be starting at 6:30 P.M. and play until about 8:00 P.M. or so. No cover charge.

The second gig is back at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company. We always have a great time there and Todd and his staff always know how to treat you right. Great beer and food along with live Bluegrass music makes this a great night out. Starts at 8:00 P.M. and goes until about 10:00 P.M. or so. No cover here either. Come out and have some fun at one or both of these locations before the hectic holiday season consumes all you time. We also want to introduce you all to our newest member Jon Meek. He will be playing with us at the Saxby’s gig on November 20th. This young man plays mandolin and dobro with us and well as adding his harmony voice to our sound. You’re sure to like this addition. Chalk up another success for all the folks that put on the Logandale Bluegrass Festival. Al Bess, Ron and Betty Williams, Smitty, Leon Evans, Marty Warburton, Old Blue Sound and all the other men and women who volunteer to make this a great show.

There were many great bands out there this year and we were honored to get our chance to do a Sunday Showcase. Thanks again to all who make this possible.

Out of the Desert is going to play at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company in Boulder City again on October 24th. That is a Saturday and there is no cover charge. We usually start at 8 PM so come on down and join the fun. This is a great place to sit down with your friends and enjoy great beer, food and live music.

Marty Warburton and his band will be playing at the Boulder City Amphitheater on Saturday, October 17th. This is also a FREE concert and you won’t want to miss this opportunity to see Marty who is a long time veteran in these parts. He and his Bluegrass Band are TOPS. I highly recommend this FREE show.

The next gig for Out of the Desert is going to be Sunday, October 11th at the Logandale  Bluegrass Festival sponsored by the Southern Nevada Bluegrass Music Society.

We will have a showcase spot at noon. We hope you will come to see this show and if possible, come for the whole thing. It is from Friday to Sunday and you can camp there for the whole week end. There will be lots of live bands through out the days and all sorts of other events as well as the ever popular jaming that goes on all the time at different campsites through out the grounds. It is a great time. Come out an support great, live Bluegrass Music.

It is with very positive thoughts and prayers that we will be saying goodbye to our good friend and bassist Tim Howe.

Due to personal issues, he finds it the wisest course of action to return to New York. We will miss him greatly as a friend and bassist. We have been very lucky to know and play with this man.

On May 30th at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company, we will be playing our final gig together with Tim so we hope you all come out and wish him well.

Out of the Desert will continue to be a bandand we are currently auditioning bass players.

In the mean time…I have posted some pictures from our very will attended concert on May 16th at the ABC Amphitheater in Boulder City. I have created a new page now for pictures. I’ll put all future pictures there.

Out of the Desert invites you to come to see us at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company. This small family owned business is currently brewing up to seven different styles at a time, ranging from rich stouts and hoppy pale ales to their most popular, a light, refreshing hefeweizen served with a slice of juicy orange. In addition, they have some great wines and non-alcoholic choices. The food menu is light, simple fare that complements the beers they produce.

The recently completed beer garden offers seating for over 80 in a shaded and attractive setting for some really great local live music on the weekends.

On May 30th, 2009, a Saturday, we will be playing in the beer garden between 8:00 PM – until everybody has had enough. They do stay open until midnight on Saturday.

We think this is a very nice, clean and friendly place to enjoy some well crafted, homemade brews and of course hear some great music. No cover charge. So…come out and support a place that supports local live music. Call closer to date for correct starting time. Hope to see you there.

We invite one and all to come out to Boulder City again on Saturday the 16th of May for a concert at the ABC Park Amphitheater. It will be an hour and a half of just Out of the Desert. We are honored to be the featured act for this concert which is just one of the series of free concerts sponsored by El Dorado Energy, The City of Boulder City and the Boulder City Friends of the Arts.
